Emmanuel Community Clinic

Emmanuel Community Clinic
Allan Jackson Caring Center
Kingston, Jamaica

Nineteen years ago Dr. Marvin Reid* agreed to temporarily fill in at the Emmanuel Community Clinic. The doctor he was subbing for never returned, but Dr. Reid stayed on, as an unpaid volunteer. After nearly two decades of faithful service, Dr. Reid greatly needs basic medical equipment and a nurse to assist him, in order to continue seeing patients from the neighborhood. The small in-take fee (the equivalent of $5 USD) charged by the clinic barely covers the receptionist’s salary and Dr. Reid travel expenses.

Nurse’s salary $1,000 per month
Receptionist’s salary $300 per month

Supplies and equipment on the clinic’s wish list include:
Sphygmomanometer (for taking blood pressure)
An examination light
Speculums
Syringes and needles
Lidocaine
Alcohol
Sterile and non-sterile gloves
Gauze and cotton dressings
Bed rolls
Filling cabinets
Printer paper
File folders

*In addition to seeing patients at the clinic, Dr. Marvin Reid has a private medical practice and is the Director of the Sickle Cell Unit at the Tropical Medicine Research Institute, The University of the West Indies, Mona.
